Celebrating the Next Generation
On May 9 the Grand Ballroom of the Copley Plaza in Boston was abuzz with inspiration and energy for the 30th Annual Tsongas Awards Dinner. For this milestone, Preservation Massachusetts looked ahead to the future, honoring the Next Generation of emerging preservation leaders for the 2018 Paul & Niki Tsongas Awards. With everything our honorees have accomplished already, it is amazing to think of where the preservation movement will go over the next 10, 20 even 30 years!
The evening also honored Riverwalk Lawrence, a preservation rehabilitation project on a massive scale that was undertaken by Lupoli Companies. The project received the Mayor Menino Legacy Award and Sal Lupoli’s heartfelt words of acceptance drew a standing ovation. We were delighted to once again have Mrs. Angela Menino with us to present the award. Our special guests included Governor Charlie Baker and Ms. Chrystal Kornegay of MassHousing, whose words urged the next generation to consider everyone’s history as we move preservation forward.
The Tsongas Awards is a special night for Preservation Massachusetts and we are thankful to all who attended, sponsored and were recognized for their incredible achievements. In keeping with the theme of looking ahead, we were excited to announce the formation of our “Next Generation Council”, which will work to promote, integrate, and involve younger generations of “preservationists” in the work of our organization and important statewide and regional issues. We look forward to sharing more as this important next chapter for Preservation Massachusetts comes together.
But for now, we invite you to learn more about our amazing awardees through our videos and their program biographies! Pictures of the event are also available on our Flickr site!
