The Mayor Menino Legacy Award 2017
Each year, the Mayor Menino Legacy Award is given to preservation projects that are transformative, catalytic, embrace the community, create partnerships, and revitalize the best of the past to make something good for the future. Uphams Crossing in Dorchester has a special connection to the Mayor, being his last groundbreaking as Mayor of Boston, and representing his commitment to safe and affordable housing for people. The project utilized a closed parish property for an inspired new use that embraced the community it had served for so long and serves as a model for others to emulate.
