MER Update: Sea Captains Row, Hyannis

When people think of Hyannis, they often envision it's lively Main Street, the harbor and ferry docks, perhaps even the Kennedy Compound. But linking the Main Street to the harbor and traversed by thousands of people each year, is a unique part of the community's history that gets overlooked. Pleasant Street, also referred to as Sea Captains Row, is a collection of 19th century sea captains house that harkens back to Hyannis' days as a major seafaring port. It was recognized by Preservation Massachusetts as one of the 2016 Most Endangered Historic Resources.

The listing serves to bring attention and a spotlight on the efforts of local individuals who are working to have this collection of 19th century captains homes recognized and restored. The Keepers of Sea Captains Row have just created a website, www.seacaptainsrow.com to bring this "preservation opportunity" to more people and showcase the work they are doing.
