The Olmsted Center for Landscape Preservation seeking Interns

The Olmsted Center for Landscape Preservation, a program of the National Park Service, is currently accepting applications for a 52 week internship in cultural landscape preservation.

The Olmsted Center promotes preservation of cultural landscapes through research, planning, stewardship and education. Based in Boston, Massachusetts, the Center provides research, planning, stewardship, and education services to parks throughout the Northeast.

This internship provides an opportunity to broaden one’s understanding of landscape preservation practice through project work, educational programs and self-study. Working as part of a team, this internship will provide the successful applicant with experience preparing cultural landscape inventories and reports, developing preservation maintenance plans, documenting existing conditions, creating site plans and participating in field projects to improve the condition of cultural landscapes. The primary focus of this internship will be assisting in the completion of a cultural landscape report for the Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site.

Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in cultural landscape preservation and management, and the ability to work as part of a team. Applicants with education and experience drawn from the fields of landscape architecture, horticulture, history, historic preservation, landscape maintenance, graphic illustration will be considered. Excellent writing skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office are required. Proficiencies with AutoCAD, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Adobe Creative Suite programs are advantageous. U.S. citizenship is required. A stipend intended to assist with housing and living expenses will be provided.

The internship will extend from mid-September, 2016 to mid-September 17, 2017.
