At first glance, it seemed barely worth fighting for.

The old cow barn on the western edge of the University of Massachusetts campus, just across from the Mullins Center, wasn’t much to look at. It had a stucco exterior covered in scraggly vines, and a slightly seedy vibe. It hadn’t been used as a barn in years, and the prospects for remodeling it for some other purpose were just about zero.
